Bartlett student earns NAACP filmmaking honor

Full Description:


Bartlett High senior Kyle Henry has had his eye on the prize for quite some time. A filmmaker by passion, Henry, who is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and was recently awarded the Gold Medal in Visual Arts at the NAACP's Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) Preliminary Competition, said that he hopes to use his new platform to become a positive motivating factor within the black community.

"Most of my films are about (the black community) rising up and becoming better people. They (the mainstream film industry) always shows the negative side: dad's not in house, but we actually have dads in the house that are taking care of their children. I like to show the good sides of us," said Henry.
